The first explosion came when 2 bomb was thrown at a convoy n which British Air Marshal Sir John Baker was traveling through Ismailia. The bomb went ff in front of one of his escort jeeps but, caused no casualties. Then burst of Sten gun fire ame from the Egyptian side of the Sweet Water Canal and Royal vir Force police with the convoy fired back. Later, a second bomb was yurled at two Army vehicles on the same road, again ‘without casualties.
