Taft Called Guilty of Lie
By United Press WASHINGTON, Nov, 27—Ohio State Auditor Joseph T. Ferguson said today that Sen. Rebert A.
nist was involved in the Ohio Democratic senatorial campaign last year. Mr. Ferguson, the Democratic nominee, was defeated by a thumping majority. ; . Testifying before the Senate Elections Committee — which is investigating the campaign waged {by both parties — Mr, Ferguson noted that Mr. Taft had testified yesterday that Gus Hall, Ohio Communist leader, once had blueprinted details for an anti-Taft campaign. “Probably the one thing that I personally object to most in the testimony of Sen. Taft,” Mr. Ferguson said, “is his reference to the Democratic campaign being blue-printed by a Communist by the name of Hall,

‘Counter Purge’
Some observers believed Mr. Slansky’s arrest marked the start of a “counter purge” to last February’s arrests of Mr. Clementis,
Deputy Secretary General Marie Svermova, Deputy Defense Minister Bedrich Reicin and at least six regional Communist chiefs. All were charged with conspiracy and espionage. Mr. Slansky was known to have pressed for action that led to the February arrests. None of those jailed has yet been tried and no indictments have been published. > Mr. Clementis was a close personal friend of Mr. Gottwald and the Czech president also was a good friend of Mrs. Svermova, ber, late husband and a number of other persons arrested.
Czechs First
With Mr. Slansky's arrest, Mr. Gottwald and his followers were left in firm control of both the Czech party and government. Mr, Slansky and those close to! him were known as completely loyal to the Kremlin while Mr. Gottwald and his followers were

In his opening statement yesterday, Mr. Daily charged Jordan fired one shot through young Decker as he turned to flee from the older man. ! Two witnesses saw the shootings, Mr. Daily said. They were IMrs. Vera Wright Jones, Decker’s |“date,” and her brother, Joe ‘Wright, 820 Harrison St. Prior to the slaying, Mr. Daily said, Jordan fired one shot in his back yard. |

Opposes Vatican Envoy | The administrative committee of the board of directors of the Disciples of Christ International Convention were on record today as opposing the appointment of an ambassador to the Vatican. The committee voiced its disapproval of the Vatican ambassador by reaffirming action taken by the international convention in Oct., 1950. The original resolution not only expressed opposition to a Vatican envoy but states that such a diplomatic relationship would violate the historic American tradition of the separation of church and state.

U. S. Blockade May Be Factor
WASHINGTON, Nov. 27 (UP) -—American officials said today there is no reason to hope that the purge of Mr. Slansky marks the beginning of a “Tito” movement in Czechoslovakia. “That would be just wishful thinking,” one State Department expert said. . ; He said the best guess is that Moscow probably was dissatisfied with Mr. Blansky's inability to get more production out of Czechoslovakia’s heavy industry and his inability to get more results from the Czech Communist Party. American” officials said they could not tell whether the U, 8S. economic boycott of Czechoslovakia was a factor in Mr. Slansky's purge, but thought it was possible. This government has clamped down on trade with Czechoslovakia in retaliation for| the imprisonment of American! Newsman William N. Oatis.
