Lease on Life Denied
By United Press ALAMEDA, Cal, Nov."23—Three-yeat-old Rodney Gale, whose parents rejected an offer to prolong his life a few months by the use of drugs, died last night of a cancer ailment. “He died in his sleep,” said Mrs. Leroy Gale, his mother. Doctors told the parents they could prolong Rodney's life a few months by using a nitrogen-mustard compound that slows the growth of cancer cells. However, it does not kill the cancer cells. Mr. and*Mrs. Gale said they would prefer that their boy die swiftly rather than suffer any more agony. He has been in pain since his illness was

YONKERS, N. Y., Nov. 23 (UP) Mrs. Irene ‘Madden, wife of an ink company executive, told police yesterday that she inadvertently
threw away an old shoe in which
she had hidden $17,000 in jewels. Her husband, Edward Madden, is vice president of Kohl and Madden, a New York printing ink concern. Mrs. Madden told Detective Leo Nevin that on Oct.715 she took the jewels from a safe deposit box in a New York bank to have them- reappraised. At that time, the jewelry consisted of a $9000 bracelet set with 48 diamonds and two unmounted diamonds valued at $4000 each, she said. x Ed = SHE SAID sne hid the gems in a shoe on the floor of a closet. Then she set to work house cleaning a few.days ago and the sho= was thrown out, along with some trash. Senator Charges Reds
Dominate a Rail Union
WASHINGTON, Nov. 23 (UP) Sen. Pat McCarran has charged that a Communist - dominated railroad union provides the nucleus for a secret, coast-to-coast “courier system” for Red underground leaders. The Nevada Democrat made the charge in connection with the release of a report by a force” of his Senate Security Committee which said the Dining Car and Railroad Food Workers Union is Communist dominated. The 2200-member union has bargaining rights only on the Pennsylvania Railroad, but Sen. McCarran said the group is carrying on “an intensive membership campaign” on other railroads to extend its control from coast-to-coast.

Religious Aid Issue Looms in Puerto Rico SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, Nov. 22 (UP)-—Catholics and Protes-
tants quarreled openly today on whether the island's proposed constitution should ban govern-|
ment aid to religious institutions. @
Catholics demanded that the present ban, based on a U. 8. Congressional Act of 1921, should be omitted from the first constitution in the island's history. They threatened to vote against adop-| tion of the constitution in a referendum Jan. 21 unless their de-' mand is met. The Association of Puerto Rico Protestant Churches announced it “will mobilize all the forces at our command” to fight-the Cath:
