You Have To Wrap Your Pipes, Or Wrap Up Yourself
‘By HUBBARD COBB
We know a man who insulated
the cold water pipes in his house because while he likes a cold shower in the morning he doesn’t like it quite that cold. A more common reason for {nsulating cold water pipes is to prevent them from freezing. Most modern plumbing systems are designed so there is no chance of the pipes freezing up, but some of the older ones have to rely on mild weather or something else to get them through the next few months, Covering a pipe with a heavy pipe insulation .is usually enough to keep them from freezing. If the pipes are exposed to the weather it's best to cover the insulation with waterproof paper fo it won't get wet and damp. Once insulation gets wet it loses its ability to insulate. Another way to deal with outside water pipes and meters is to build a box around them and fill the box with
- sawdust or loose insulation. Allow
about 6 or B inches of insulation around all sides of the pipe.
A new gimmick to keep water pipes from freezing is the electrical tape. This is an approved electrical appliance which you wrap aroynd the pipe and plug into the nearest electrical outlet, The tape warms up and keeps the pipe nice and warm.
state which will turn on the current to the tape when the temperature gets below freezing. You can get these tapes at hardware and electrical appliance stores,
Pounding Steam Radiators -
A lot of things that go wrong around the house don't have much point to them but when a steam radiator on a one-pipe svstemn bhegins to pound it has a veryrvalid reason. © Steam from the boiler’ flows up the radiator and here it condenses into water. The water then flows back to the boiler through the same pipe it came up as steam, Now, if the pipe to the radiator has sagged a little the water may not be able to flow hack and =o it just git in thegline waiting for something to happen. It doesn’t have to wait for long. When the steam comes up it runs into the water and has to pound its way through. All this makes the radiator pound. What you do about this is very simple, When steam is coming up, turn off the radiator shut-off valve and put small blocks of wood under the legs of the radiator. Turn the valve open and see if there is any noise, If there is, put higher biocks of wood under the legs untii the pounding stops. All that you are doing is tilting the radiator and pipe enough so that the

Prince Charles Starts Setting Styles at 3
By WILLIAM M. McGAFFIN Times Special Writer LONDON, Nov. 17--Prince
Charles, just 3 vears old, has set A new style for the very young man about town a bow tie, It's a safe bet that before the winter is out, thousands of other little British boys will take up this and other American fashions being worn by the unruly-haired prince who will one day be King of England. Prince Charles’ dashing clothes —he wears a narrow bow tie with a checked flannel shirt that has cowboy flap pockets, in one picture, and in another a tee shirt—have emphasized the fact that he is a baby no longer but a small boy in everything from appearance to actions, Birthday was a big day for him Wednesday. But not nearly so Important as the fact mummy and papa are sailing

What with the excitement of the occasion he awoke earlier than usual at 7:30 this morning and began singing in a slightly off key, piping voice the song he always sings to let Nanny know he Is awake “Heigho, Heigho, as off to work we go ,.."” THERE'LL be a second birthday party when Elizabeth and Phillp get back this week-end with several packing cases full of presents given them § Canada to take back to their Ron. Included
in this lot are an Indian suit, toy {
steam shovel that works, two bat-tery-operated cars that go by remote control, a stuffed lion cub, and a tiny Union Jack Philip picked up in Toronto. At 3, Prince Charles is exceedingly mischievous like any little boy. Once a nursemaid came in unexpectedly to one of the rooms of Clarence House to find Charles had upset a coal hod all over the carpet. The surprised voungster regained his poise, pointed a finger at the maid and said: “Look what you've done.” Among good manners he has been taught ars never to speak while sucking a mouthful of his favorite toffee. If occasion arises when he has to speak, he must take the toffee out of his mouth
and pop it into a little tin box his father gave him for the purpose, reclaiming it after he has spoken. At a party in a little friend's house recently he found himself without the tin box when he went up, his mouth fuil of toffee, to say thank: you to his host. He took the toffee out of his mouth, looked around for somewhere to put it, and finally handed it to the Queen who graciously rose to the occasion by holding it in her hand until he was ready to reclaim it,
