Democrats as well as from a substantial part of the independent voters. « * Jenner Backed “Sen. Taft's following showed up nearly exclusively among GOP ranks. In that group was a large

number which chose Sen. Taft,

for President and Sen. Jenner for governor, Since the students who were questioned in the survey were from other states as well as Indiana, the polls for governor and Senator were comparatively light. More than 95 per cent voted for a presidential candidate. Only 44.8 per cent showed a preference for governor and 31.4 per cent for Senator. The two state posts were closelv interlocked with Gov. Schricker and/Sen. William Jenner showing strength in both fields.

Bayt Mentioned

One unexpected suggestion for both positions was Mayor Phillip L. Bayt of Indianapolis. The survey took place at approximately the time Mayor Bayt was being soundly defeated by Judge Alex term in

Clark for a four-year City Hall. g o(J.. 8.. Rep. Charles R. Brown-

son, Lt. Gov. John A. Watkins and State Representative Philip Willkie all showed some followers. y In the voting for governor both former Gov. Ralph Gates and 1946 GOP aspirant Hobart Creighton were named.

Although Moe, a 3-year-old hunting dog, sometimes ignores Oswald, the duck remains un-

ruffled. He considers himself Moe's protector — and “de-flea-er.” ” ”» ~

THEIR FRIENDSHIP began last Easter when the Bakers got the newborn duckling for their four children. It also started their comic-strip adventures.

Oswald quickly assumed the role of protector. Quacking loudly, he informed the beagle his worries were over. And Oswald kept his word. He chases off any other dogs that invade their backyard precinct.

Once Oswald's well-mean guardianship almost sent hin flying to duck heaven. Mr. Bak er took Moe hunting but lef his web-footed pal behind. When Mr. Baker saw a mov: ment in the brush, he drew : careful bead. But something told him to investigate first. I: was Oswald. “The duck's just like one of the family,” says Mrs. Baker.
