WARM AS TOAST—Men who fire the big furnace of the First Presbyterian Church promote

|

the spirit of worship and well-being. They also share in the budget.

You will find it just as difficult to operate a church without financial planning as you will a business.

Congregations of many denominations all over the country indicate their belief in this by holding the “every member canvass.” The First Presbyterian Church, 16th and Delaware Sts. offers a good example. Officials have mapped money goals and will ask the whole congregation to help carry them ont. v It was decided that $85 000 will cover the varied expenses of the church for 1852. Members are expected to pledge $75,000. The balance of $10,000 is assured on investments and other resources of the church.

Tells a Story

As first step in the canvass, officials mailed 1000 copies of a large, lavishly illustrated folder to that many households, The pictures tell the story of the fields

in which the budget-dollar will work. First of all, you see the wideopen doors of the historic stone church with men and women entering for worship. Thus the purely spiritual function of churches takes the lead over all others.

Under the church is a sizable likeness of Dr. George Arthur Frantz, the minister, preaching in the pulpit. Also depicted are Sunday school children, the robed choir, mid-week dinners, daily clubs and classes for the vouth of the community, a room at Hanover College, foreign missions and other fields of endeavor,

Reminder to Follow

The coming ‘Monday, containing a blank pledge card will go from the church to the members. A second, or reminder letter, will follow Nov. 26. On Dec. 2, 10 teams of 10 workers each will visit the residences of persofis who have failed to return the pledge cards.

Teams will lunch in the church dining room immediately following morning worship on visitation day.. They will go into members’

homes afterward. And according to the Rev. .Charles Richard Brown, another pastor . of the

church, the teams expect to complete their work in one afternoon. The finance committee has an-

nounced it will use 12 cents of every budget dollar for the

church's seven-day gram; 22 cents for benevolences and 66 cents for the staff and maintenance, A staff of 13 persons carries on the administrative work for the church's 1772 members. Victor C. Seiter is chairman of the budget committee. George aas prepared the illustrated folder for which James Darlington and Elwood Powell Jr. took the pictures. Homer Eberhart is canvass chairman. Most of the canvas work wal done gratis by interested members, thus relieving the church
