In Hollywood— Durbin Hints Of Comeback SS noLLYWoOL Spe johnson

Durbin again is hinting for a

letters from Paris to Hollywood pals telling about het new

svelt figure. Joe Pasternak, who discovered her and produced all her hit films, | is still dreaming of guiding her back to boxoffice fame but not in! the immediate future. “Deanna’s 26 now,” he told me. “I'm going to wait until she gets a little older. JANET LEIGH, in her new short-bobbed hair, and hubby Tony Curtis may get their wish to co-star in a movie—a trailer. MGM wants, to borrow Tony from UI for a/day to work with Janet in the trailer for “Just This Once.” In return, Janet will be seen in the trailer for Tony's new film, “Hear No Evil.”

ESTHER WILLIAMS and hubby ‘Ben Gage are working up a stage act for the New York run of “Skirts Ahoy” which will be unveiled on the 10th anniversary of the WAVES around Easter time. Ben will sing and Esther will work with four girls in a comedy scene from the picture in which she gets drenched in a water-and-mop initiation to the WAVES. “We'll prove to people,” Esther says, “that things aren't | always tricked up in Hollywood.” Her fans may scream about her lack of swimming in “Texas Car-| nival,” but Esther isn't worried.| “I just write them and say I do a lot of swimming in ‘Skirts Ahoy’| and that the Annette Kellerman story will be all swimming.” The movie mermaid is still blushing over the regulation WAVE bathing suit she tried on for the film and which had to be remodeled because of censorship. | “It was awful,” she confided, “no two things happened at the same! time.” ® = » Don’t count on any actor playIng Gen. Patton in “The Red Ball Express.” UI admits that Patton's heirs and estate must first give approval of his depic- | tion in a movie. Shortly after

with a supply squadron in the Tenth Air Force during World War II. Day after day, we saw planes loaded with more gasoline than my car now uses in a year. But we never ran out of gas.” That was true because, back home, the oil companies expanded their output of aviation gasoline fifteenfold. And most of it was a super-quality product, unknown

a few years b

efore.

During the war you never heard anyone say that some of the oil companies were “too big,” and it’s no . more true today than it was then. The way things are

going in the world, we can all be thankful that we have \

some big ones. National security requires them: It takes a good many thousand separate oil companies —large and small—to serve America’s needs. Through their efforts, petroleum has steadily become more useful and more widely used. It has probably had more to do with improving the daily life of the American people, during the past 50 years, than any other one thing.
