HERES your fifth re-

port on clubs regis-.

tered in The Times Modern Minute Women's Blood Donor Recruitment Drive. Time is running out for any group to erase the telltale zero by its name. There are but

nine days left to telephone advance appointments before

Thanksgiving Day's deadline in~

this drive. November's goal to save wounded American GIs in Korea is still 6000 pints of life-giving blood. Only you can meet this goal. Clubs are listed in battalions by name in order of their standing with the number of active members, number of donors and pledges checked through Red Cross Blood Center by Thursday night and percentage of membership either pledged to give or donated. Percentage is the total since the drive opening Oct. 3. Your record speaks for itself.

Be Sensible About Food

Dr. Don G. Hilldrup, Red Cross Blood Center medical director, has some sound advice

on food for donors, “Do not come to the Center hungry,” he says. But, donors should not eat a HEAVY meal within four

hours of giving blood and no food except black coffee, tea or fruit juices during the two hours

" Immediately preceding the do-

nation. All foods containing fats such as pork, mutton, butter, cream the like, should -be avoided four-hour period. But fruits and vegetables, bread, cakes, jellies, honey, cereals with skimmed milk, coffee and tea without cream may be eaten. After a donation donors are taken into the canteen for a drink of his choice—“Coke,” coffee or milk—and sandwiches or. crackers, Usually donors are hungry then. In other words, don’t fast, be sensible. There's a right way to do everything.

Gormans Donate For ‘All’ Boys

VERY report from the Korean front has special meaning for Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. Gorman.

For more than 30 years this couple has been interested in boys and today many of their boys—Hoosier boys—are across the Pacific fighting the battle for preservation of freedom and individual rights. “Our activities at the clubs

now are mostly with the be-

low 18-year-olds,” reports Mr, Gorman, director of the English Avenue and Lauter Boys Clubs. . “So many of our "older boys are in service.” ~ Ld y JUST RECENTLY THEY received a letter postmarked Korea from one of two former Boys Club members who have béen together since they went into the Marines a year ago last August. One has been wounded once, the other twice. “We don't care too much” the boy scribbled. “It's the only rest we've gotten.” " = » LAST WEEK the Gormans went together to Red Cross Blood Center to donate their gift pints of blood. “Some wounded GI will get it, they said, “even if one of our boys doesn’t.” Mr. Gorman gave for School 39 PTA, Mrs. Gorman for the Boys Club Auxiliary. Giving blood gifts is nothing new for. this couple. During World War II they became Gallon Club members. They agree more gift donors can be recruited on a personal basis by people who have already given and know how sim-

ple it is. “It isn't that others don't want to give,” they say. “The

emergency just needs to be brought home stronger by those who have been here at the Center.”

Have You

Scheduled Blood Film?

IGHT Indianapolis organizations have viewed the new U. S. Defense De-

partment film, “Blood and Bullets.” The picture shows the urgent need of more civilian blood donors to assure life for wounded American fighting men in Korea. It takes the audience from an American Blood Center to the front lines in Korea where blood and plasma are given wounded Gls. “Blood and Bullets” has been released to the Indianapolis Red Cross for any organization to show at {ts meeting. To schedule the film call Red Cross speaker's bureau, Lincoln 1441, - - ” INCLUDED ON THE future schedule are showings at Albert Walsman PTA, 1.30 p. m,, Albert Walsman School, Wednesday; School 47 PTA, 7:30 p. m., School‘47, Friday: Gamma * Kappa Sorority, 6:30 p. m., First Congregational Church, Nov. 22; Edgewood School PTA Study Group, 10:30 a. m. Edgewood Methodist Church, Déc. 6, and School 2 PTA, 2 p. m., School 2, Dee. 19. Future showings of “Blood and Bullets” are being planned for the civil defense auxiliary police classes.

Don't Accept False Rumors

Some people use as a reason for not giving blood rumors that the blood is sold. Anyone who tells this story as truth is guilty of treason. It is untrue. Blood is not sold by Red Cross to the Army. It is not sold by the Army to our wounded. Stalin takes pleasure in the spreading of this rumor. You are doing him a favor if you spread the report and you are doing the Communist cause a favor if you fall to give blood because of it. The top investigation agencles of the country have been unable to trace a single story of blood being sold. « If you hear the report—if someone tells you of a case— have them call The Times immediately. Ask them to call right then and give the facts they have. ;
