wallpaper in place just so long it’s secure. Now procure a piece of wallpaper somewhat larger than the area to be covered and tile same pattern as the stuff you have on the walls. Hold this piece of paper with one hand with the pattern side facing you (this is all very important so pay close attention and don't skip words) and tear off the edges of the paper. Tear by pulling the edge toward you. The reason you do all this to produce a feathered edge to the patch which, when pasted over the old paper, will be hardly conspicuous at all. Apply some library paste thinned with water to the back of the patch and position it over the damaged section of wallpaper so that the patterns match up. Smooth out the patch with a damp sponge or cloth and make certain that the edges are well pasted in place. When the patch is dry you can fix up any rough-

You can do ‘quite a lot of good by gently scraping off the damaged finish with a razor blade and then applying several very thin coats of shellac or varnish over the spot. Apply a sufficient number of coats to build up a patch level with the rest of the finish. Scratches can be avoided to a great extent if the pieces of furniture are kept waxed. The wax forms a protective coating over the finish

As soon as the furnace i% turned off for the season, flush out metal roof gutters with the garden hose, This will remove soot and ash which ¢an be very corrosive. Of course, if you get a nice hard rain this job isn’t necessary. Pour water down the drains of seldom used pulmbing fixtures now and then to replace the water in the drain trap that evaporates. If this isn't done there is a possibility of sewer gas getting past the trap.

Gerald Overholt, Houston, Tex., the party's national chairman, said the convention will be the organization's biggest since 1916. Convention delegates from more than half the states in the union will nominate candidates for president and vice president Thursday.

FARMINGTON, Conn. (UP)— A tinv local woman, rejected repeatedly when she offered to give the Red Cross her blood because she didn't weigh enough finally made the grade. Beaming, after her blood was taken, she showed her weight-gaining formula — lead hidden in her clothing.

THE INDIANAPOLIS TIMES __ Sermon of the Weel—

‘Peace and Victory”

Scripture: “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulations: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

PEACE AND VICTORY are two things this world craves above everything else. Jesus promised both

of these to His followers. There were other promises He made at the time He promised peace and victory. It was at the time of the final discourse with His disciples before. the crucifixion that He made these promises. Joy was also promised: “These things have I spoken unto you, that your joy. might be full.” He promised steadfastness: “These things have I spoken unto you that ye should not be offended.” J He promised answers to their prayers: “Hitherto ye have asked nothing in My name: Ask, and ye shall receive.” And then the promise of peace and victory found in the words of our text, The peace that Jesus brings is different from that given by the world. It an inward peace, a peace that can be

. enjoyed in the midst of tribula-

tion. Jesus said that in the world His followers were going to have tribulation, vet at the same time they were.going to enjoy peace = x ~ A CHRISTIAN should have peace even amidst the storms of life because he has a great Pilot. A ship was being tossed by the angry waves in a fierce storm. All the passengers were greatly frightened. One of the

bravest of the group ventured up on the deck where the roar and confusion were terrific. The spray from the crest of the waves blew upon his face with such force it seemed enough to blister it. He slipped arodnd where he could see the pilot. His voice could not be heard above the howling and roaring of the waves and storm. but his pilot happened to see him and smijled and nodded with assurance. The passenger crept back the others with the assurance that everything was all right. He knew because he had seen the pilot and the pilot had smiled. « When we know Christ the Divine Pilot is directing our lives, when we feel His presence in the storms of life, we can know and enjoy the peace that He alone can bring. “Jesus

Savior pilot me over life's tempestuous sea.” Then the Christian has the promise of victorv in Jesus, I, find so many people who are defeated, spiritually fn these days. Those who share in the peace that Jesus gives will also share in His victory. “In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” Jesus overcame the world even in His life. He overcanie the world on the Cross by His resurrection. Of course, when He died in shame and disgrace those few followers that remained felt no sense of victory. » "” » WHEN NAPOLEON was defeated at Waterloo, the message was sent back to England, “Wellington defeated Napoleon.” There were no telephones or telegraphs and the message had to be relayed from one ship to another, In the process of sending the message across the channel one ship was waving the message to another when a heavy fog prevented the last of the message’

from being seen. All that was

received was, “Wellington defeated.” That news, we are told, reached the British Isles and

for a few hours there was great _ fear and distress in the hearts of people and then the fog lifted and the mistake was discovered. When the news of victory instead of defeat was realized, sorrow and fear were changed to rejoicing and celebrating.

So to the followers of Jesul, the shame and agony of the crucifixion meant ‘utter’ and hopeless defeat. They did not understand the power and ‘vietory -of Christ until the truth of the resurrection dawned, until the shadows about the cross dis« appeared and they realized suddenly that they serve not ga dead man, but a living risen Lord and King? . So we.as Christians can and should share in the victory of Christ. We are conquerors in - His name. Not with force and might but with love and self denial. A Christian often conquers by surrendering, lives by dying, gains by losing, rises by sinking. Do you have peace and vice tory in your soul? You can have it today, It is found in Him.
