Kefauver Committee hearings on strike breaking at the Detroit Michigan Stove Co. and headcracking at the Briggs Manufacturing Co.

Follows Pattern

All of those arrested were released on $1000 bond by Recorder’'s Judge George Murphy. Their hearings were set for Nov. 15. In a written statement following the arrests, Wayne County Prosecutor Gerald K. O'Brien declared: “It has been ascertained that there was, and is, an organized plan of operation on the part of certain persons to prevent employees in some plants from either joining a union or forming & union ‘of their own choice. “The organized plan follows a pattern of outright threats, intimidation and use of coercive measures.” ‘Find Big Push’ The alleged plot came to light while a special police squad was| checking reports that widespread gambling, chiefly the numbers racket and horse betting, was allowed to flourish in Detroit's motor industry. “The crime committee estimated the annual “take” as several hundred million dollars in the Ford plants alone. ‘CIO United Auto Workers’

Kiwanians' Gift Gives Boys Lift At County Center
