Purdue Loses Ace Linebacker
Times State Service LAFAYEYTE, Nov. 9 Holcomb and the Purdue Boilermakers received a jolt today when they lost their No. 1 defensive linebacker. Don Fife, a sophomore from Reno, Nev, was dropped from the squad because of scholastic ineligibility. He had failed to keep up the required number of courses because of irregular attendance at class. Fife was a center and considered the No. 1 man on defense and the No. 2 man on offense. Purdue is scheduled to play at Northwestern Saturday. Speculation at present is that Coach Holcomb will call on John Lynch, a freshman, to fill in for Fife.
victory, something Smitty's critics tend to ignore. = = ” TOMORROW'S GAME may be just what Fullback Gene Gedman of Indiana ordered. The Gophers are soft in the middle. That's perfect for a good fullback like Gedman. Minnesota isn’t a strong passdefense team, either. Indiana
Quarterback Lou D'Achille may
play on that weakness if weather behaves.
Purdue at Northwestern
PURDUE HAS one Big Ten victory and a desire to move into the first division. Otherwise Purdue hasn't very much. Northwestern has a passes well, rFuns fehds fiercely. At 4-2 on the season the Wildchts are the logical pick. Purdue has a 2-4 record. A bright spot for Purdue is the recovery of injured Backs Earl Heninger, Phil Klezek, Jerry Thorpe and Don Kasperan. Their return will take a few wrinkles from Coach Stu Holcomb's face. Holcomb has had to go with youngsters such as Jim Whitmer, Rex Brock and Max Schmeling the last two weeks. The youngsters delivered enough to put the injured veterans on their mettle.

Spartan Prexy P Blasts Bowls
By United Press EAST LANSING, Mich, Nov. 9—The root of all evil in collegiate football lies in the traditional post-season bowl games, the president of Michigan State College said today. When asked if the unbeaten Michigan State football team is in the market for a bowl bid, Dr. John A. Hannah, president of the college, replied that “if I had my way, there would be no bowl games at all.” “If any of the alleged evils exist in collegiate football all, I feel they may be attributable to such post-season contests as so-called bowl. games where all sorts of pressures and commercial factors may be at work,” the col- #88 lege president said stanchly.
