Thee U. S. Fliers Lose Lives in Fiery Texas Crash
By United Press SAN ANTONIO, Tex. Nov. 9 Three airmen were killed last night when a B-29 Superfortress from Randolph Air Force Base crashed and burned while attempting to land at nearby Kelly Field. Maj. Russell D. Webb, Kelly sublic information chief, said seven members of the 15-man crew were rushed to Lackland Air Force Base Hospital. Randolph Field information officers said the others were reported to be alive, but refused to confirm the report. Maj. Webb said the plane was burning as it made a ground control approach and fell to earth some three miles short of the runway. One wing and two engines broke from the main portion of “the plane and plunged into a gravel pit several hundred feet from where the fuselage crashed. Fire swept both sections, Maj. Webb said. The plane was “a total loss.” Maj. Webb said the plane had been on a routine training flight and was making a training approach at the time of the crash.

Repeal Excise Tax es On Cosmetics
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 9 (UP)
| —Beauticians, now observing na'tional beauty week, are one group
in the nation that can smile a bit in this era of rising taxes and prices. Largely through the efforts of their national organization—the National Hairdressers and CosmeAssociation, Inc.—a 20 on profes-
tologists per cent excise tax sionally used cosmetics in beauty salons has been repealed. Many beauty salon operators called this tax “discriminatory.” forcing them to operate on little or no profit. As a result of the repeal of the tax, there will be a total savings Qf many millions of dollars paid each year by beauty salons throughout the country.
However, the repeal of the 20 per cent excise tax applies only: to professionally used cosmetics the tax is still on for cosmetics purchased by the customer at the counter. During national beauty week, the San Francisco Cosmetologists Association a unit of the United Association of Registered Cosmetologists, Ltd. of California, is waging a vigorous battle to raise the standards of the beauty profession.
