‘Death ofa Salesman’'— 5 Play Portrays Strong Emotions

“Death of a Salesman”
Arthur Miller's great play,
University auditorium in Bloom-
ington tonight, has tremendous vitality. And this company, apparently
i complete change from the one Mitchell headed when the show visited Indianapolis in April, 1950, has different tempo lifferent intensity.
Brings Out New Meanings
At the beginning of Act I .last ight I had the impression that Duncan Baldwin and Sylvia Davis, as Willy. and Linda. Loman, couldn't carry the emotional freight was wrong. They did magnificently, and so did Ted Jordan, as Happy, and Steven Ritch, as Biff, the two sons. Mr, Baldwin has perhaps of the poetic dreamer and more of the frustrated man of action than Mr. Mitchell, but the change in emphasis brings out new meanings in the play. Miss Davis, who started out being mousy and colorless as the hard-working wife of the dying saleman, achieved an amazing crescendo of power,

previous misevasions and misunhave a lightninglike force of revelation,
They break in on our complacent assumption that such arguments den't happen in families—at least not in=+*good families, like our own. And yet they tell us much about conflict,
whether spoken or unspoken. Understanding the personalities in the play, we see where their arguments lead them As -Aristotle said we should, we get a sense of pity and fear Minor Miracle Wrought

years. Mr. Miller doesn't make it al“together clear, and I suspect
there may have been some confusion in the repeated revisions a play like this certainly required. The grave-side speech by Charley, the perennial friend in need (marvelously played by ArTell), says salesmen are what they are because they deal in dreams. That's why Willy was Willy. But Willy also was a darn good workman, when he was happily dealing with wood, metal and concrete. Anyway, a play that raises questions and objections from a hardened reporter on second seeing certainly has power. Last night's almost breathless audience in the vast Hall of Music seemed to agree.

that is generally successful in ridding the perspn of this humiliating habit in three to four weeks. This new treatment is really a. conditioning of the person whereby he usually stops the bed-wet-ting habit all by himself. A dry nerson is a happy person. It was developed by a doctor and. is endorsed and approved by physicians. No drugs or attachments are used.
