Turn down the Pointer over the Name of Each Candidate you wish to vote for.
,Upon entering the voting place, announce your name to the Judges and Clerks and sign the Voters’ Poll list. Then-g6 into the voting machine and move the RED HANDLE to the right as far as it will go, closing the curtain around you. The machine is now ready for voting.
At the left of the machine are the Party Jevers, indicated by the party emblems .and party names, the names of the Republican candidates appearing on the line with the Republican Party lever on the first or top row, with their respective ballot numbers and the letter “A.” Democratic candidates appear in a like manner on the second row as indicated by the Democratic Party emblem, each of such candidates
with ballot number followed by the letter “B.” Pull the lever indicated for your party to the right until the bell rings and then let it go back. This will turn down all the voting pointers in your party row. IF YOU WISH TO VOTE A STRAIGHT TICKET, LEAVE THE POINTERS AS THEY ARE (all down), but if you wish to “SPLIT” or “SCRATCH” your ticket, turn UP the pointer over the name of each candidate you wish to cut out, and then TURN DOWN the pointer over the name of the candidate you wish to vote for such office. YOU MAY VOTE FOR NINE CANDIDATES FOR THE OFFICE OF CITY COUNCILMAN—In other ‘words, you can vote your straight party ticket
and for THREE ADDITIONAL CANDIDATES of the other party, OR FOR ANY COMBINATION OF NOT MORE THAN NINE candidates for such office. THE NAMES and voting pointers for the candidates for SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS appear at the RIGHT on ROW “D"”., YOU DO NOT PULL ANOTHER PARTY LEVER TO VOTE FOR THESE CANDIDATES—EACH must be voted INDIVIDUALLY—Turn the voting pointer DOWN over the name of each candidate for whom you wish to vote. When you have a voting pointer DOWN over the name of each candidate you wish to vote for, move the RED HANDLE TO THE LEFT as far as it will go. This registers your vote and opens the curtain.
