This is the fifth of a series discussing the ‘change over’ in the seasons move from summer into winter.. The ideas suggested are adaptable to almost any type of household, cottage, apartment, large suburban home or farm house. The series is appearing exclusively in The Sunday Times.

You can serve cafe-teria-style in the kitchen before the school play. You can put a formal buffet in the dining room for the holidays. At these parties you will not be faced with the critical decision of who sits next to whom. The guests will mix better and enjoy it more. The cart has become the current symbol of easy summer living.
