148 Runners in H. S. Cross-Country
Indiana's high school crosscountry runners crown a new individual champion tomorrow, but whether they'll dethrone Anderson as team winner was doubtful. Coach Carl Bonge's Tribe is
unbeaten in dual competition this fall, and in the recent sectional scored a record-low 17 points. They placed four runners among the top five to rate at least an even chance to chalk” up their sixth consecutive team championship. The individual winner in this two-mile grind at Coffin here will succeed Chesty Jim Lambert" of Muncie Central, champion the last two years. The top performances in sectional competition were Ted Snyder of Vincennes and Bob Eigelsbach of Valparaiso. Snyder won the Jasper meet in 9:43, while Eigelsbach won the Hobart session in 9:59. They'll shoot for Lambert's state-record time of 9:45.9 set last year, In all, schoo
148 runners from Is will be Tepresented.

Michigan Dut
To Stop lini
Trip to Bowl
By United Press
SN ARBOR, Mich., Nov. — Upset-minded Michigan, with & fifth straight Big Ten
title its aim, left. today for Illinois where it will meet Coach Ray Eliot's fighting Illini tomorrow in a game which may decide the championship. Thirty-six battle-tested Michigan warriors had only one
boarded a train here:“To defeat favored Illinois and atone for a 7 to 0 loss to the same team a
year ago. ; “We'll stop that guy (John) Karras,” one Michigan lineman
muttered. Karras is the halfback who has scored 21 touchdowns, during his career and is being bracketed with Harold (Red) Grange, an Illinois great of years gone by.
= un n ANOTHER chided, “if we can't go to the Rose Bowl, then neither will Illinois.” Michigan represented the Big Ten at the Rose Bowl last Jan. 1 and won't be eligible to . make the trip to Pasadena again until Jan. 1, 1954. While mum?’ about his battle plans, it is a safe guess that Coach Bennie Oosterbaan will order a quantity af passes. Michigan has found the airlines its best method- of travel to date with any %nd all backfield men taking turns firing the ball to appropriate receivers, However, a certain amount of rushing is promised since the craft board has smiled on Bradford who boasts a fat 6.2 yard average for each of the 38 times he has carried the ball.
= = = ONE MICHIGAN coach remarked after yesterday's practice session, “I haven't seen a tean: so keyed up for a game in a long time. That Minnesota victory lifted’ their spirits to the top and they're going to be tough to beat the rest of the season.” The Wolverines can mix up their air attack at random.. Against the Gophers of Minnesota last week, Quarterback Ted Topor dropped back to throw twice for touchdowns and reserve Don Zanfagna completed his only toss for a score.
