Board Slashes

$2 Million Off | County Levies

By JOHN V. WILSON Indianapolis property owners will pay tax rates of $4.62 to $4.71 next year. : The final rates were recom‘mended by State Tax Board ex-|. aminers yesterday after slashing proposed city levies by 24.6 cents. County-wide reductions .yecommended in all levies will save Marion County taxpayers more than $2 million, examiners esti-

mated at the close of their ‘twoday review session.

Breakdown of Rate

. The 1952 rates recommended for the five taxing districts in Indianapolis are: Center Township “4. Washington Township . $4.631 Pérry Township ....... $4.71 Warren Township ..... $4.6213 Wayne Township...... $4.68 Examiners concluded their review by trimming the Indianapolis “civil city rate 10 cents and the _School city rate 9.5 cents. Previously, they had cut the county rate 3 cents and the poor relief rate 2.1 cents. Reductions were based on, the whopping. $38.6 million increase in property wvaluations—from $845,698,410 to $884,322,500.

$32 Million Boost

Most of the increase—about $32 million—was picked up in Center Township, which includés mogt of Indianapolis.

Sleet, Rain Fail to Halt. UN Advance

By United Press : EIGHTH ARMY HEADQUARTERS, Korea, Friday, Nov. 2— | The first snow of the winter and bitter sleet and rain storms failed to halt United Nations’ hit-and-“run drives deep into Red territory in Korea Thursday.
