TV Cake
THE CAKE THAT'S causing the biggest stir is made with fruit gelatine and a ready-cake mix. It's: a new fad called twin merchandising, two products sold together.
” » » BETTY CROCKER pie crust is tied . in with Kraft cheese. And Welch's Grape.Juice is plugging
jelly, 10¢ off if you buy both. Free goods are flying fast. And it puts the pump to sales. Four
cakes of toilet soap, banded together for the price of three, paid off big
The Other Side
LITTLE PRICE-FIXER Mike slipped today. He began working the other side of the street. He had been soloing in price control. That worked some places but not on meat. The meat takehome fell to a nine year low. » Se ‘today Mike DiSalle told housewives not to buy steak. What he was asking was fhat they bring demand down to supply. Then he said there is plenty of food. He couldn't include meat.: He couldn't. That control misfired.
Aling Drewrys
IT FINALLY HAPPENED. The word has been around for a long time that Drewrys, a good name, in ale, hadn't been doing so well.
The excuse was. that: “They don’t drink =ale out here in” the Middle West.” And that wasn’t exactly true, because they do drink beer. And ale is a kind of beer. .a little flatter, a little stronger, . 5 - ” SO TODAY Carleton S. Smith, president of Drewrys, let out the
news. Drewrys is moving in wit two old breweries, Atlas and sii weiss both in Chicago. It was a stock swap. But what Drewrys will get is a long-needed ad-push, and money to expand. Maybe that will cure what's ailing ale.
