“By JOAN SCHOEMAKER TV housewives, two doctors and a group of teachers, the Scottish Touring = Team, defeated
. the Earlham Varsity, 15 to
nothing, in the exhibition field hockey match Tuesday at Earlham College, Richmond.
The Scottish team in its purple tunics and thistle shields
has defeated every team it played in the tour in this country. The only teams to
score against the Scottish have been the All-American and AllPhiladelphia teams and the Boston Field Hockey Association. Each of these made one point in the game. ; Earlham College is one of two
college teams im the United Qtates to play the Scottish Team. Normal College, Bloom-
ington, Ill...is the other school. Miss Clara Comstock, -dean emeritus of Earlham and former head of the physical education department, threw in the first ball. She introduced hookey to the college while an instructor there in 1915. Exhibition matches have been played at the school frequently with the Scottish team on the program twice before; 1931 and 1936. Three team members resigned jobs to come on the tour and
others found substitutes. With the exception of Mrs. Mollie Mackay and Mrs. Eileen Hyndman, housewives; Miss Janet , | Smallwood, Edinburg University student, and Dr. Marygold Watson and Dr. Agnes
Macgregor, the players are physical education teachers for the most part. Miss Margot Stewart is a civil servant in the ministry of supply. Twelve of the 15 Scottish women are ‘Internationalists.” that is they have represented their country in other international competition. This rating is comparable to “All-Ameri-ean.” The two doctors both play hockey as a hobby and all the players learned the game at approximately the age of 11. The team manager, Miss D. Morison-Inches, came to this country with the team before but it was the first trip for the other team members.

West opened the deuce of clubs and East won with the ace. The king and ace of hearts were cashed on which West played the eight and trey, in that order. East then led the jack of hearts and South ruffed. South made the tentative calculation that West had started with four clubs, although the
