Vote Mark ¥ Predicted | In Britain

Talburt Sketch, Other Stories, Page 24 By United Press LONDON, Oct. 25—Crisp, sunny weather brought out a possible record vote today in

. n aging Winston Churchill to lhis old job of prime minister, Both newspaper polls betting odds indicated voters would throw out the Socialist government which has ruled Britain for six vears under Prime Minister Clement R. Attlee. But if Mr. Churchill's Conservativee party does win a majority ‘of seats in the new 625-seat House of Commons, its margin of victory may be small. Bookmaker Douglas Stuart reported at 6 a. m. (Indianapolis Time), that betting odds on a Conservative win had shrunk from 6 to.1 to 9 to 2. Closing odds last year were even money. Up to 85 per cent of the nation's 34,914,912 registered voters were expected to cast their balTots before the polls close at 3 p. m., Indianapolis Time.

If Mr. Attlee's Labor party is beaten, the prime minister will ask for an audience with King George VI probably either tomorrow or Saturday and submit his ¥ resignation. Then the king would summon Churchill to Buckingham Palace and appoint him prime minister, the post he held through most of World War II.

The outcome of Britain's second general election in 20 months probably will not be certain before 11 a. m. (Indianapolis Time), Friday. Only 322 election districts will count their ballots tonight. The remaining 298 will tally up their votes tomorrow. ATLANTA, Oct. 25—-A massive man with a 'threepage FBI record admitted to

police today that he distributed a’ supply of poison whisky that killed 31 persons here -and © sent more than 200 others to the hospital, some of them blinded for life. John Richard (Fat) Hardie, a fantastic 360-pounder, was arrested by Atlanta police at Piedmont Hospital where he was recovering in an over-sized bed from a broken arm received when he went to sleep at the wheel of his convertible and had a wreck.

Hardie promised authorities he would tell them the identity of the person who manufactured the stuff —made of water and an alcohol used to “soup up” racing cars. He said he did not know the 96 gallons he admitted distributing to a wholesaler here was lethal. -
