Copeland, 35, had appealed to him for some sort of document which clear his record that Mexican authorities would permit him to enter that country. Copeland was sentenced to the Ionia State Reformatory in 1934 for breaking into a summer cottage. He escaped a few months
later and was given a longer entence, finally getting out on parole in 1937. He was released
from parole restrictions in 1939
and joined the Army. Given High Awards
