- Beech Grove Man
Killed When Car Rams Into Truck
A 45-year-old Beech Grove man was killed early today when his | car rammed under the rear of a big truck northwest of Indian-| apolis,
His death brought to three the Indianapolis and Marion County raffic toll for two days.
Latest victim was Virgil L. Swaffard, 710 Byland Dr. Beech Grove.
The others were Mrs. Edith Tate, 54, of 2235 Northwestern Ave., and Horace J. Ferguson, 71, of 234 N, Bellevieu Place. Both were pedestrians killed in the city.
Hit Stopped Truck
Mr. Swaffard's car smashed into the rear of a truck halted at the edge of U. 8. 52 at 624 St. The truck driver, Raymond W. Johnson, 35, of 2113 Avondale Place, told state police he had stopped to help a motorist who flagged him down.
Mr. Swaffard died instantly of head injuries. It took wreckers more than an hour to pry his] body from the wreckage.

Carol was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The driver was Bernard J. Another Indianapolis man was gravely. injured and three other persons were hurt in a smashup last night on Ind. 67 near Gosport. In critical condition in General Hospital with a concussion was! Mr. Branham and young Bryant were in a car that struck the Moores’ auto, one of two stopped to let oncoming traffic pass.where the highway is one-way because of construction. Short-Changed Grocer Is Glad He Was
Frank Yagher, a grocer, was short-changed yesterday, but he -ian't-really. complaining: wy He told police three men entere his store at 2435 N. Harding St. and bought some lunch meat. They gave him a $10 bill. Then apologizing for taking all his change, they offered him a $5 bill and five ones. In a fast money shuffie, Mr. Yagher realized he was $5 short, but made with the money—fast. | He told police he was afraid if he complained the threes might rob him.
Christmas Group ¥ Plans Circle Event
Christmas is closer than you think. ; : Twenty-one members of the Indianapolis Christmas Committee met yesterday in the Columbia Club to begin plans for the annual yuletide decorations and carol singing at Circle Monument. The official opening will be either Dec. 13 or 14, the date yet to be scheduled. Daily noontime programs by musical groups will start Dec. 17.
Dies of Injuries ANDERSON, O¢t. 19 (UP)— William A. Branch, 63, Anderson Municipal Water Works superintendent, died in St, John’s Hospital last night of injuries sustained when he was struck by an auto Monday while placing warning lanterns around a street ex-’ cavation.
