Thus the “Hoosier Comedian” Herb Shriner came to the defense of his adopted state today. in the battle of beauty. He was replying to a GI's statement from Korea that Iliinols had more, beautiful women than any: This bold assertion was taken up by the Illinois Junior Chamber of Commerce and the challenge promptly answered by the Indiana Jaycess.

Lads Make a Wager

The Indianapolis Times and the Chicago Dally News will help Sgt.| Norman K. High Tides Batter Coasts of 2 States

| MIAMI, Fla. Oct. 18 (UP)— High tides battered the Virginia and North Carolina coasts today |as a late. season tropical hurricane rolled slowly up the Atlantic seaboard some 230 miles offshore. Far to the south, a rejuvenated |semitropical storm hovered about |80 miles southeast of thes Isle of {Pines at Cuba's western tip. Neither storm posed a definite threat to land, according to the Miami Weather Bureau, although shipping was warned to stay out {of their paths.
