Admiral Praises Local Industry - In War Effort
Indianapolis, a thousand miles from the sea, plays an Important part in keeping our Navy up to fighting strength. That's what Rear Adm. Francis P. Old, commandant of the Ninth Naval District, said today in a speech before the Kiwanis Club on USS Indiana Day. He said Indianapolis makes important naval supplies and furnishes manpower.
Key Is Strength
Adm. Old also told the Kiwanians we do not have peace now. “An armed truce i= not peace. A cease-fire is not peace. A state of tension, cross-purpose and infrigue is not peace. What we do have is a situation where peace is not impossible.” The ‘key is strength, he said, but the goal of our strength must be peace, not war-—-and not how to win a third world war but how to prevent it ard how to Keep the free nations free,
