Odd Fellows Meet Here This Week

The 115th state convention of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Indiana will be held here Wednesday and Thursday. Representatives from the order's 352 Hoosier Lodges will attend the sessions in the Odd Fellows Building. ‘Graid Master Melvin E. Mosher, South Rend, will preside. Following the state convention will be the 104th annual meeting of the Grand Encampment branch of the state IOOF. Oct. 12. Grand Patriarch Lester E. Nelson, Kendallville, will preside.

Of Yom Kippur To Open Tuesday

The solemn Day of Atonement observed annually by Jews |around the world will open Tuesday at sundown and continue for 24 hours. The Day of Atonement, or Yom Kippur, most sacred feast of the {Jewish calendar, will climax the [10 days of penitence which began with the New Year, or Rosh |Hashonoh. Children will remain away from school and a constaht stream of persons will visit the synagogs. Prayer and fasting are the order of the day among Jews everywhere. At the Tuesday evening services, the traditional Kol Nidre, plaintive melody associated with Yom Kippur, will be heard in the SYyNnagogs. Traditional Rites The Beth-El Zedeck Temple will present the traditional Kol Nidre Service Tuesday at 5:30 p. m. in the synagog and the vouth service simultaneously in the vestry. {Rabbi William P. Greenfeld will give the sermons for the adult service and at 9 a. m. Wednesday. Young people also will assemble for services Wednesday at 10 a. m. in the annex and juniors, that day at 10:30 a. m. and “4 p. m. in the vestry. Rabhi Samuel J. Fox will officiate Tuesday at the 5:30 p. m. service and preach on: ‘Mercy Killing” at 6 p. m. in the United Hebrew Congregation. Synagog. Rabbi Fox will be in charge of services Wednesday from 8 a. m. to 5:30 p. m. including a sermon at noon titled: “Souls Incorporated.” Cantor Solomon Greenperger. and Marshall Weller, vahbinical student, will assist Rahbi Fox. Memorial services for the dead are- chanted as part of the Day of Atonement program.

Wittenberg College Official to Speak

The Indianapolis Chapter of the Wittenberg Guild of Wittenberg! College. will present William Maurice of the college in an address at {its annual tea Tuesday at 1:30 p. m. in Block's Auditorium.
