PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 5 (UP) ~A 31-year-old Portland chemist ’ says the government granted him a patent for a solution which “will get rid of radioactivity.”

The inventor, Jack De Ment, said the “atomic wash” is a mix- %, ture of water and silicon tetrachloride. The compound attaches to most radioactive atoms and hooks them up with {insoluble silicates. “In other words,” Mr. De Ment explained, “the atoms form a sort of gelatin solid, making it easier to wash them from large wyrfaces.” Ny] The chemist said he developed | the solution, intended primarily for defense workers, in 1947 for use when and if A-bomb. dust falls on a city.
