Would Cost State Plenty But since the new state law opening the welfare rolls to the public was declared in conflict with federal confidential rules, the government cut off the federal funds. Now the Republicans hope in a desperation move they can make the state pay 80 per cent of the welfare costs, with the counties paying the remaining 20 per cent.

million a year. Democrats say it would bankrupt the state. Republicans say it will do no such thing. If the Democrats won't support the Republicans expect to point to them at the next election and say:
