| Is Designed to Look Expensive

‘By DEAN H. ROBINSON ‘Thi§ week's small home might be considered an economy house because of the wood siding and the fact that there is no basement, but the little extras the architect has added such as the two built in outdoor flowers boxes,

‘the picture windows, and the at-

tractive back porch all make it look. pretentious and expensive,

The interior is well planned for convenience and efficiency. As

- you enter through the protected

front door you will find a coat closet on the left and an attractive shelving arrangement that you could put your prized knickknacks on, or you could leave the shelves open for an attractive argFangement of potted plants. The living and dining rooms show influence of open planning and yet the dining area is definitely tied in with the kitchen. The kitchen part of the utility area is U-shaped and has a beau-, tiful corner picture window which will make this a light and airy place to work in. Next Is a sforage room, always good in x no-| basement house, and the laun-| dry and heater room. Panel Window Gives Two-Pane Glass Wide Uses

Folks out ‘shopping for a new : home nowadays are going to find &

a revolutionary change in win@ows as the result of a design trend that is ‘expected to spread the construction industry this fal. ? The biggest change, according fo John Cox, building consultant of Libbe ns-Ford Glass Com-~ Y, is the to double-pane sulating glass for windows all around the house, instead of just for picture windows or window walls, Now double- glazing is used in bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms as well as living rooms. . This type of glazing, previously regarded by some builders as racticable only for higher priced omes, has been put within the reach of buyers of modest means by a new concept of window depign and construction, Mr. Cox #xplained. » » ¥

. THE SECRET LIES in the deSeiczment of “panel windows” whichean eonsist of either one or & dozen units of Thermopane all of the same size. The panels of glass are fitted into panes of varying sizes, In providing a liv-

economies lie in the standardiza-| tion and flexibility of the panel windows, said Mr. Cox. Only two sizes of glass units are’ required, | one for fixed windows and the other for ventilating windows. » ” » THE PANEL SYSTEM has revolutionized the placement of windows i» bedrooms, most builders say. Old type double-hung win-| dows have given way to the new! style which are placed four to five!

more privacy and more wall space for furniture. Ventilation also is imptoved, they report, and the, same advantages apply in kitchens) and bathrooms, | With ‘panel windows it is possible to have any degree of ventilation from none to 100 per cent, depending upon the requirements. The windows are easily screened.

And one of the big reasons why the trend is so popular is this: Today a suburban or rural home can be just as comfortable, just as modern, just as automatic as any city apartment, duplex, or bungalow. Life “beyond the gas main” is no longer unisearabie, For science and enterprising businessmen have teamed together and produced ,a public

They call it LP-Gas, or bottle gas, and it comes delivered to your home, ready to serve your kitchen range, refrigerator, home heating plant, air conditioner, clothes drier, washing machine and garbage incinerator. ‘And right now, LP-Gas services more than 7.5 million famiHes across the pation.
