Wastington State” “Special Session
What does a sailor do on his day off? He usually takes his girl! for a rowboat ride. What does a lawmaker do on his day off? Well, one state senator from the State of Washington, Republican Corwin Philip Shank, came to Indianapolis to-! day to find out what the state legislature is cooking up. Now Sen. Shank, a well-tanned business man from Kirkland, a suburb of Seattle, doesn’t think a politician ought to play politics on his day off, but he is vitally interested in Indiana's welfare
problem and came to find ot what was what. Personally, Sen, Shank is all tor chucking federal aid otit f, the window and letting the sta handle its own welfare program.) But he admits the majority of] his colleagues don’t feel the same way. Here are some of Sen. Shank’s observations: | “Politics are just the same here as in Washington.” This was blow to Hoosier laws makers who have always thought Indiana politics was tops. Mp, Shank added: “Politics is disgusting, especial!
ly in the Washington House’ of, sorts of things, including that so-called headdress
Representatives.”

he was weak, but he was in “fair condition.”
Mr. Blandy came down from his perch—nine days almost to the minute after he kissed his wife and climbed the pole. He had planned to stay for 11 days, but he still beat his old world récord of six days, set at Miami, Fla. in 1940,
He had planned to celebrate his birthday with a “party” on top of the pole last night. Merchants at a newly-opened shopping center, where he was the feature attraction, planned to send up a cake and gifts. “I.ecan’t go back up there,” Mr. Blandy said. “I'm through with this one.”
