It was a case of mistaken fugitives, police said yesterday, when they released two Indianapolis youths arrested earlier. The two, William Darrill Edwards, 18, of 1214 E, Ohio 8t., and Jack Jones, 26, of 530 E. 11th St., were taken into custody when police were called to the Kroeger Laundry Co., 1009 E. Market St., to investigate an attemptéd break-in. The two youths and a third boy loitering in the area fled in a car when police arrived. Police gave chase and fired four shots. The boys abandoned the car on Pine St. Jones and Edwards were arrested a short time later, on a vagrancy charge. They said they ran from police because they were afraid. Convinced they had nothing to do

WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 (UP) —The Civil Defense Administration has urged that every person in the United States and its territories wear dog tags similar to those worn by servicemen. Arm-in-Arm-—

The. new twin Second Free Methodist Church do not pretend they have not “fought just like brothers” many a time, The Rev, Verdon Dunckel and the Rev. Vernon Dunckel, the twins, share equally the ministerial duties of the parish. They offered a ready answer to this question: “How did both of you happen to select the same vocation?” They painted a picture of themselves as boys walking down the street arm-in-arm, deep in the most intimate conversation, Some disagreement must have developed suddenly, For one dealt the other a blow with his fist and soon they were rolling and struggling on the ground. When they had “fought it out, up they got, brushed themselves and went on again arm-in-arm. “But we had our’last fight in high school,” the Rev. Verdon, chief spokesman, explained. “It was a bloody affair.” About deciding for a ministerial career, he was emphatic:

Vernon Decides First “Every true minister must have an irresistible call of God. Vernon and I had a very religious upbringing. He had a religious experience in high school which resulted in his making up his mind to prepare for the ministry. I responded to the same call in college.” : Although the identical twins laughed often and heartily, seemed to possess keen appreciation of any bit of humor. they were quite grave about this matter of the Christian vocation. Many persons ask about it, they said.

And while they seemed to feel that the “call” was the most momentous event of their 35

death of their father when they were 6. Grew Up on Farm Their widowed mother remained on the farm to rear her nine children. They included an additional pair of twin boys. Verdon and Vernon daily walked two miles to and from a one-room school. The mercury fell to 30 below zero during the bitter Michigan winters; and the twins were known to suffer frosted cheeks. But the school was cheerful once they arrived. The boys enjoyed the usual pleasures. of farm children. And they report that they went to Sunday school in the . nearby town of Willlamston whenever they could. But this was not egsy to do. They later worked their way through Williamston High School and played on the same basketball, football and baseball teams. They blew their trumpets in the school orchestra and sang in the choir and quartet, When they were 18, their first parting came. Vernon, who as has been recorded, knew just what hé wished to do, went to Spring Harbor College and Seminary, Spring Harbor, Mich. Verdon went east to take up his glass work at Houghton College, Houghton, N. Y. . Changes Membership The brothers had grown up in the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Vernon changed his membership to the Free Methodist Denomina~ tion, became a pastor before his brother and had the experience of receiving Verdon into membership of the church. Their friends and acquaintances marveled that the twins never became strongly attached to the same girl. They maintained a strict regard for each other's wishes in that matter they said. The wives of both sing sad Mrs, Verdon Dunckel is an accomplished pianist. The two couples perform a quartet in the
