| Indiana Central College fell off lonly 5 per cent, according to [Registrar Earl Stoneburner. This year's budget had been built on an estimate of 300 students, but an unusual number of freshmen girls, pushed registration to 361. i At Purdue University, 2400 new students have appeared so far. Final total is expected to be around 9300, while fall, 1950, enrollment was 11,000. But Purdue has five male students for every female, Draft calls, reserve call-ups and enlistments therefore took greater toll [than at schools with’ a closer balance of sexes. ; Indiana University officials re- | ported a probable drop of 7 to 8 per cent from last year’s total of 13,300. The reduction may be almost exactly in line with a preseason estimate of enrollment, made by President Herman B | Wells.

Woman Found Guilty Of Beating Principal

| CLEVELAND, O. Sept. 27 (UP)~—Mrs. Bernice Smey, 37, was| found guilty yesterday of handing out a bloody beating with a paddle to a junior high school principal who admitted kicking her son for disciplinary reasons, | A jury of eight housewives and ifour men deliberated two hours before reaching a verdict on the fifth ballot. ‘ Municipal Judge Mary B. Grossman announced that she would jnot sentence Mrs. Smey until Oct. \8 when probation officials make a report. Conviction carries al {maximum of $200 fine and six months in jail.
