Instant dismissal and an early passage home on a slow: boat was the punishment he invariably prescribed.

At that time I was a mere captain in the commandos, but I was also a member of Parliament. I was outraged by the attacks which were directed against Gen. Eisenhower. I wrote a letter to a newspaper a few weeks after the assassination ‘of Adm. Darlan, which I concluded with these words:

“Surely. it is time that a truce was called in “this campaign of recrimination. In the last analysis it is Frenchmen who must settle such differences among themselves. Our role must surely be to reduce quarrels among Frenchmen to their proper proportions, and to let it be khown that we will help all Frenchmen, except proved traitors like Laval, to play a useful and honorable part in fighting the enemy.” 1 was abused at the time by Left Wing members of Parlia« ment for having written this letter, Apparently if I hall been in England 2t the time it would have been al! right for me to have attacked Gen.
