| WILLIAMSBURG, Va. Sept. 20 (UP)—The faculty of Wiliam |& Mary moved today to take {college out of big-time bo Jee he {order to end the athletic pros; gram’s “insidious influences” academic life. The faculty's action was {touched off by the recent resig-| [nations of the college’s president, | {athletic director and basketball] coach following revelations that) the athletic department had al-| tered records of high school athletes to allow them to enter the college. The faculty blasted the athletic set-up in a six-page’ statement, which a faculty committee said had been adopted unanimously at a Sept. 17 meeting attended by 85 per cent of the 112-man faculty. Henceforth, the committee said, the faculty will elect four committees which previously ‘had been appointed in order to subordinate athletics “to their rightful place.” These committees are those on admissions, athletics, scholarships, and academic status.

Against Giants In Grid Benefit
NEW. YORK, Sept. 20 (UP)— The Los Angeles Rams, who be-| defense, and -the New York both, wind up their exhibition football schedules tonight in a
charity game at “the Polo
The Rams, who set 12 new Na-
records last season, meet the {team that posted the best defensive record in the circuit in 1950. The Giants also had a good
ing while scoring 268 points. But that total was nowhere near the pass-happy Rams, who scored a
lar season games last year.
x LJ ” on THE TEAMS won't meet again this year unless they win their respective division titles and clash for the NFL championship. The game will benefit some of New York's tenement kids who go to camp each summer on the funds the New York HeraldTribune collects for sponsoring the annual contest. On Friday night, the New York
Yanks will meet the Detroit Lions at- Houston, Tex. The Yanks, who have e lost four
straight, are the only league team without an exhibition triumph.
COLUMBUS, O., Sept. 20 (UP) —Charges against John Hlay, first string Ohio State fullback suspended for taking part in a barroom fracas, may be dropped today. Barney Oldfield, manager of the restaurant in which Hlay be-| came involved in a fight with a special deputy sheriff and police Saturday morning, said that he and Deputy James Ackers will ask the police prosecutor to drop the charges. The 21-year-old Niles, O., junior was charged with disorderly conduct, assault and battery, and resisting arrest. Ackers said the football player and another student, Robert Tose, 25, of Portsmouth, were annoying other per-. sons in the tavern and that they fought back when he asked them to be quiet. Hlay was’ finally subdued by city police who hit him with a Bight Suck stick. —————
