£200 Cash Stolen

She told a Times reporter that at first she thought she'd scream. Then she realized that her father, Frank J. was out of town and only her mother was home with her. So she tried to bluff the burglar by asking, ‘Is that you,’ Daddy?” The intruder replied. “I'm going downstairs right now,” ‘and did so, Miss McAvoy said. She told police her mother's purse, containing $200 in cash, was stolen, as was $25 from her own purse. Both purses had been on the dining room table on the first floor. About an hour later, Miss Letzter was awakened by "footsteps ‘butside her bedroom. When she went into the hall to investigate, she told police, a man grabbed her arm and told her, “keep quiet.” But she screamed and he fled. So far as was known, nothing wag stolen from "her Delaware 'St. residence. Police were furnished a description of the man they believe to be the burglar by William Haynes, 30, of 3348 Washington Blvd.. which is only a few blocks from the Letzter and McAvoy homes. Mr. Haynes said a man ran across his yard in front of his headlignts’ as he arrived home shortly before last midnight. Mr. Haynes said the man was 25 to 30, six feet tall, heavy set and wearing a brown or red leather jacket. Police found a screen in the rear window of Mr. Haynes’ home had been punctured, probably with an icepick, but entry had not been gained. Still earlier, L.. S. McKelby reported his home, 3925 College Ave., had been ransacked and the phone torn from the wall. Jewelry worth $200, including an opal

ring, had been stolen,
