'At least one important house, the Holiday, now has returned to legit after nearly 20 years of screen use. With a caution against Mr. Funke nevertheless regards the trend as healthy.

nicipal | auditorium to carry a purely theater function. That might mean that the

‘auditorium now being considered

by Mayor Bayt and his committee could be planned more economically. If the civic auditorium should be designed primarily for conventions, exhibitions and similar large-scale gatherings, the highcost construction of a theater plant might be eliminated. One argument for the auditorium always has been that we miss attractions like the Metropolitan Opera, The stock sad story concerns the Met's visit here in World War 11 years, when the Indiana Theater temporarily was dark but unavailable for leasing, that the operatic tourists had to go on through. But the Met and Loew's, Inc. now apparently -have made a prgcedent-shattering deal. It does not mean, of course, that grand opera ig" going to replace movies. It does mean, however, that ice is broken, red tape is cut and a whole new set of possibilities are opened up.
