i Radic, Televison Blackout on Fight Studied by House
By United Press WASHINGTON, Sept. 11—The House Rules.Committée began a . study of the radio-television blackout on this week’s middleweight championship fight as it met this morning to review proposals to investigate all sports. A resolution by Rep. L. Gary Clemente (D. N. Y.) would call for “a decision on whether the public is being deprived of tele-. vised boxing “by unreasonable restraint.” Another proposal, by Rep. Victor L. Anfuso (D. N. Y.) would call for an Investigation of horse race betting with a view to putting such gambling under federal control. C ’ Meantime, an all-5tdr team of top sports figures and the justice department planned to ask nationwide support for its campaign i# drive gambling from all fields of sports. | None Met: the Price

Turnaway crowds flocked to every theater, and al minor riot was staged by the! throng in Chicago. The International Boxing Com-| mission had asked $500,000 as| the price for a sponsor to tele-| vise the fight for private television set owners. No one was willing to meet the price. Rep. Pat Sutton (D. Tenn.) said in a House speech yesterday that the blackout violated “a right that should not be denied
“Rep. Sutton urged the House Commerce Committee to study the matter of broadcasting and televising major sports events “in an effort to give the public the right to which they are so justly entitled.” - . Model Law Planned
At the same time, Attorney General J. Howard McGrath said he was delighted with the speed with which nine leaders in professional and amateur sports drew up a five-point program aimed at cleaning up sports. The group plans to write a model law which the states will be asked to adopt in the drive against gambling. The program will be Presented to the Attorney General's second annual conference on organized crime next month. 4 Mr. McGrath has made all facilities of the Justice Department available to the sports group. President Truman told the group late yesterday that he would order any necessary action if it asks for help from the federal government. The group is headed by Fran-
