Fights for Her Life—

Girl Stabbed in Lived in Fear of Re

By United Press DES MOINES, Sept. 12—Pretty ___Theresa O'Connor lived in fear for eight months of the rejected lover who stabbed her as she walked to the altar rail at St Ambrose Cathedral.

Her friends say today that since last January the dark-haired young clerk, now fighting for her life at Broadlawn General Hos"pital, ajways kept her apartment door log¢ked to keep out John A. Masterson. Masterson yesterday stabbed and slashed Theresa with a 7-inch hunting knife as she slowly walked towards the altar to receive Holy Communion. Masterson, 24, a former Drake University “student, was charged with assault with intent to commit murder. Police. said the charge might be changed if the 23-year-old girl dies. “He was crazy,” Theresa told police at the hospital. “He used to go. with me, but I told him I didn’t want anything more to do with him.” : Theresa forgot her precaution of keeping her door locked last Sunday, friends said, and Masterson walked in without knocking.
