The committee made public testimony of Gen. J. Lawton Collins, Army Chief of Staff, who cited the Patton medium-gun tank as an example of the success of Army research and development. “For example,” he sald, “In Korea in direct tank versus tank action, this new Patton tank has knocked out Russian. Fungus Leaf Blight

Hits lowa Corn Fields AMES, Ia., Sept. 8 (UP)—Arden Sherf, extension plant pathologist at Iowa State College, said today a fungus leaf blight was causing damage in Iowa corn fields. The blight is especially bad in! the southern half of the state,| al with Lee and Des Moines Coun- TOUNTAIY - ties receiving the greatest damage, he said. Although the blight is not new, infection this year appears to be worse than in previous seasons, Mr. Sherf said. It first entered the state in 1923.
