Mayor Bayt today gave his official stamp of approval to the Indianapolis observance of Parade! of Homes week. The Parade, the county's for the annual marking of National Home Week, begins tomorrow and ex-§ tends through: Sept. 16. ; “Local private building contractors are to be commended for the role the have played in building = better and more beautiful homes in Indianapolis over, the past years,” the Mayor said.| “It is largely through their initi-| ative that the Parade of Homes| has come to be the success it is| today.” Observance Urged .

Mayor Bayt urged local citizens to take an active part in the obgservance “because the Parade of Homes is created for Indianapolis residents.”

The Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, through its executive vice president, William H. Book, also urged citizens to visit homes on display “to see for themselves the great achievement of the building industry under our sys-

Studies of the effect of daylight {and sunlight upon human personality show that family relationships tend to be happier and more tranquil in generously windowed. dwellings, says Dr. James Bender, director of the Institute of Human Relations. Accordingly, people who have bought new homes during the last six years should be quite happy. A study by Frank Sohn; architectural consultant for Lib-bey-Owens-Ford Glass Company, showed the average home built in the last five years has twice as much window space as the one of two decades ago.

Here, the Parade of Homes will remain open through Sept. 16 and Hoosiers are invited to visit all “open house” -sites, inspect the finished houses and watch actual construction work on many hundreds in various stages of completion. Biggest, Best Yet

Sponsors of the Parade of Homes feel that this year's show is the biggest and best yet pro-

tion, Hoosier builders are a pretty hardy breed and despite numerous fluctuating federal controls, the home building pace has slackened only slightly from last year's tremendous volume—the greatest in history. Figures tabulated by Fred L. Palmer, dean of Marion County builders, show that as of Sept.:1, builders had started 2566 residential units. Of these, 2419 were single dwellings, 122 duplex

{houses and. 15 apartment units.

up, nailed up tree, with a coat of paint. It has his name on it, It is the measure of his reputation, his worth and standing in the community. The same goes for the work-

men. . It {is their hammer strokes, their push and pull of the saw, their meti us sweep

of the paint brush,. their exactness with the threaded pipe, the square of tile, or the unerring snip of he tn shears, «

They are designed for pushs button living, modern sinks, ample closet and cupboard space. Furnaces, for instance, used to look like giant spiders in the basement with pipe webbing in every direction over the basement ceiling. *

» n ” MOST OF THIS is past. Furnaces are better looking. And there's less pipe. And those houses which have basement tspace have additional room which can be kept as clean.and comfortable as the rooms upstairs, Kitchens are built for electric dishwashers, disposals, with re niches.
