Brazilian Scouts Build Air Strips In Deep Jungle

i By United Press RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Aug. 18—A group of Brazilians thas completed an eight-year, penetration of the central Bra{sillan jungle. Their work opens the way for direct air service between Miami and Rio de Janeiro. It will cut iflying time between those points by several hours. i. Defying savages, wild animals nd disease, the Roncador-Xingu expedition of the governmentsponsored Central Brazil Founation has laid its 12th air strip the heart of the jungle on the fTapajos River, a tributary of fhe Amazon. \ * The achievement climaxed a $000-mile trek across some of the world’s wildest virgin territory and completed a chain of air strips from Golania, in Goias State. Strung on a diagnoal line, hey are designed to permit straight flying from Rio de Janeiro to Manaos, on the Amaon, opening the immense cen-| Aral area to civilization. i
