Carl Cloud Will Wed Betty J. Kirkham This Afternoon

The Meadlawn Christian Church will be the scene, at 3:30 o'clock this afternoon, of the marriage of Miss Betty Jane Kirkham and Carl Cloud. The Rev. Herbert Sprowls will read the dquble-ring rite.

The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harris Kirkham, 4845 Fletcher Ave. will wear a white satin gown with a lace yoke and sleeves. Her veil will be of white illusion and she will carry a bouquet of white roses centered with an orchid. Mrs. James Holliday will be matron of honor and Miss Ruth Kirkham and Miss Joyce Delano will be bridesmaids. Their rose, yellow and blue gowns will be made of dotted Swiss over taffeta. Nancy Kirkham will be flowergirl. Mr. Cloud has chosen William Schelske as best man and Joseph Kirkham and David Hammer as ushers. A church reception will follow the ceremony. The couple wil} make their home at 2410 Leland St. Mr. Cloud is the son of Mrs. Esther Cloud of the Leland St. address.

Miss Carole Newland became the bride of Richard Boyd Miller in a 3:30 o'clock ceremony yesterday afternoon in the Third Christian Church. Dr. A. C. Brooks read the double-ring rite. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Seth H. Newland, 304 W. Hanna Ave, and Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Miller, 515 W. 44th St. The bride chose a frosted organdy gown styled with a chapel train and long sleeves. She wore a fingertip veil of fllusion and carried fleur d'amour and a white orchid. Miss Lois Newland, her sister's maid of honor, was dressed in a dark green organdy frock over taffeta Bridesmaids, wearing light green organdy dresses matching the maid of honor's, were Mrs. Richard Sturm and Miss Maxine Holzbog. Gilbert T. Richey Jr. was best man and ushers included Jack Metz, Shelbyville, and William Shover. After a church reception, the couple left on a wedding trip to Lake Shafer and Chicago. They will be at home at 1031 N. Pennsylvania St.

Shades of ice blue, aqua, pink and green formed the color scheme yesterday afternoon at the marriage of Miss Jean Ann Bates to George Lewis Vonnegut. The 3:30 o'clock ceremony was performed by Dr.

Roy Ewing Vale in the Tabernacle Presbyterian Church. Parents of the couple. are Mr. and Mrs. Howard Haywood Bates, 4915 N. Capitol Ave., and Mrs. Carl Richard Vonnegut, 3613 Washington Blvd. The attendants carried out the color scheme in their nylon tulle ballerina-length gowns. The bride, a graduate of Butler University, is a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Mr. Vonnegut was graduated from Purdue University and is a member of Phi Kaopa Psi Fraternity. Blending with the attendant's gowns of pink, the bride’s gown was of petal pink nylon tulle. The molded bodice had a sheer yoke outlined with shirred tulle and Chantilly lace scattered with opalescent sequins. Her two-tiered fingertip illusion veil fell. from a halo of petals edged with seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of Amazonica lilies, stephanotis and pink sweetheart roses centered with an orchid. After a dinner in Whispering Winds, the couple left for Chicago. They will live at 2804 N. Talbot Ave. The bride attended Marian College and is a graduate of St. Vincent's School of Nursing. Mr. Powell attended Butler University.
