Called Truman ‘Stubborn’—
Hoosier to Face Marine’s Discipline
By United Press WASHINGTON, Aug. 9—Disciplinary action is being considered against Marine Lt. Gale C. Buuck who wrote President Truman from Korea protesting his “stubborn réfusal to pull out of Korea.”
The Marine Corps said a letter published in Mos-
cow today by the Literary Gazette is similar to one that appeared on Mar. 13 in the News-Sentinel at Ft. Wayne, Lt. Buuck’s home town. In Moscow version, Lt. Buuck was quoted as
asking Mr. Truman:
“How many years are you going to let Ameri-
can manpower, materials
and money drain into the
Korean sewer? How many more of my men must die because of your stubborh refusal to pull out of
Korea?”
Marine Corps officials said the letter that appeared in the News-Sentinel was similar in tone. Asked if any action had been taken against Lt. Buuck for writing the letter, an officer replied: “It's
pending.”
Pentagon records showed that Lt. Buuck still is on active duty in Korea with the 2d Battalion of the 1st Marine Division. His wife, Mrs. Martha L. Buuck,
lives in Ft. Wayne.
Holder Throws "Trumanism'’ Gauntlet to Democrats
Democratic candidates in Indiana city elections were challenged by State Republican. Chairman Cale J. Holder last night to say whether they are for President Truman or against him.
Speaking for the Warren Township Republican Club, Mr. Holder said the dominating issue in the state's municipal elections this Year is “Trumanism.” He said the “Socialist bosses” in Washington are trying to minimize the importance of city elections this year.
*If President Truman is repudiated in the city elections this year the Socialists and fellow travelers will have been served notice that the people of the Midwest are no
