The biggest man in the Goodyear Tire & Rubber organization here is J. C. Arnold, visor for* Goodyear hers, is as “Hoosier” as

district manager:

He’s big not only in his job, but he's also

big in size. . Standing 6 feet, 413 inches tall and weighing 224 pounds, you know Mr. Arnold must have been an athlete before you ask him. He played football, halfback; basketball, center; when he was a student at Drury College in Springfield, Mo.

Born at Oakland City

Rorn at Oakland City, Ind, Mr. Arnold was raised and educated in Missouri. Typical of his Hoosier background, he was raised on a farm and worked at it, too, before he went to college. A graduate of Drury College in business administration, Mr. Arnold used his salesmanship and executive ability to advantage while still in college. He worked his way through college by selling books for the Midland Press, Inc, lishers. His success in that part-time field earned him a position as field representative for Midland when he graduated from college. It was his first fulltime job.

Assigned to Des Moines

A “born” salesman, Mr. Arnold got his first job with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. 33 years ago. After a training period at the Akron headquarters in product adjustment of the sales department, he was assigned to the Des Moines, Towa, district. [ater he went into thé wholegale division where he spent 10 years. In 1932, Mr. Arnold was promoted to manager of Goodyear retail stores in the Philadelphia, Pa.. district and was in charge of 24 ontlets. Following an manager of retail stores in Chicago, he came to Indianapolis in 1936 as district manager, the pogition he still holds. Mr. Arnold. is a member of the Indianapolis Athletic Club,

Store Front Has 391 Glass-on-Steel Blocks

The attractive white front of the enlarged Goodyear Service Stores building contains 391 glass-on-steel porcelain blocks. The porcelain exterior has “lifted the face” of the Goodyear center to make it one of the most attractive on Delaware St, The new store is easily identifled, too, by the huge sign G-0-0-D-Y-E-A-R on the front. Each letter of the new sign stands four feet high.

Busy Delaware St. is no problem to motorists when they want service—or make purchases—at the Goodyear Service Stores. The expanded automotive service and home supplies center at 627 N. Delaware St. has plenty of off-street parking space for the convenience of customers. There's no waiting in a line of parked cars, either, to obtain service for your car-no matter how large or small the job. The parking lot in the rear area of the store, east of Delaware St., and the large quarters of the service department provide facilities for servicing 60 cars at one time. In addition to the inside service space for cars, others receive on-the-spot attention at the gasoline pumps and at the battery and tire checking area on the north side of the huge Goodyear location.
