Design Permits Later Expansion
+ ‘By DEAN H. ROBINSON This week's little home is cute and conveniently arranged and yet it will probably cost less per cubic foot of living space than any house in the series. It is only 26'x29’ but there are two bedrooms down and room upstairs for two more to be finished at a later date. The almost square shape and the wood siding and interior chimney are some of the features that help the economy angle, Little things like the built-in flower boxes and the back terrace could even be finished by the owner and

New Construction Gains 6 Per Cent During June
New construction during June
increased 8 per cént over a year ago, but residential building was 23 per cent off June 1950, the U. 8. Department of Commerce reported this week. However, with the exception of commercial building, all construction increased over May’s totals. But the increase in private residential work was considerably less than during comparable periods in previous postwar years, the report showed. It was’ recorded at $909 million.
Valweed at $2.7 Billion
Overall construction work during June was valued at $2.7 billion.
. "The decline in private residential building, it was believed, largely accounted for the decrease of 4 per cent of all construction work, as ‘compared to a year ago. Private industrial, commercial, and public utility construction, although higher than June 1950, did not offset the residential drop. Total expenditures for the first half of '51 were 16 per cent above a year ago, reaching almost $14 billion. Despite increased costs this represents a larger physical] volume than 1950 and tops that | of any previous year, the report | stated.
