SARASOTA, Fla, July 14 (UP) —Norman C. Hewitt, 76, killed his wife, her daughter and himself when his reconciliation attempt faifed, but the policeman he also shot was expected today

Officers broke into the home of Mrs, Floyd White, 45, yesterday after Patrolman Earl Parker, who had gone there to investigate a report of a shooting, was hit in the chest by a 45-caliber bullet.

They found the bodies of Hewitt, his 68-year-old wife, a prominent clubwoman here, Mrs. White, her daughter, in separate rooms. All had been shot once in the head.

Bed Catches Fire

First-degree burns were: suffered by Louise Jones, 21, of 2469 Bond St., when her bed caught fire early today. She told police the bed caught on fire shortly after she retired at 3 a. m,, but claimed she hadn't been smoking. Her right arm and feet were injured.
