Don’t Deny the Kids—
Police Circus A Fine Show
By Henry Butler The Police Circus is locally the nicest reminder of things you may have forgotten. This wonderful show, sponsored by our bluecoats for a benevolent purpose, will have matinee and evening performances today and tomorrow at Victory Field. Maybe you're hardhearted enough to stay away yourself, but you can't deny your kids this experience. Not if you've seen the kids take it in. \ The kids* nour was early last night, It must have started about 7:30, when the grandstand already was well settled. You wouldn't hate -to see that evenin’ sun go down if you saw it from the Victory Field grand-| stand. Big round Indiana. sky, turning from blue to gray. Huge grain elevator, checker-top gas tank and perpetual northwest-ward-moving swatch ef black smoke are the ornaments. Last night, it was right purty, as Annie, in “Annie Get Your Gun,” the Starlight Musicals production now at the Fair Grounds, would say. :

righteous baseball in the past, and it's a cryin’ shame. The grass is so green, the diamond is sO beautiful—why ever disturb normal activities? Somebody is going to have to make up somebody's mind about Victory Field as a show place, and right soon. Any circus where the main thrillers are 200 yards from the spectators might just as well stay in Florida. So far as the youngsters could see the [remote acts could have been in {Hancock County. So far as us oldsters were concerned, the acts, thrilling and unbelievable as they were, looked from that distance like something you would spray with DDT. They couldn't be human; that active and so small. It's the worst and the most embarrassing feature of the whole enterprise. So you save your grass in the infield, and the elephants the kids love perform 150 yards away.
