OAKMONT, Pa., July 3—! Sam Snead again battered par on the front nine today and gained a. five up lead on Walter Burkemo of Franklin,
of their 36-hole match for thej; PGA golf championship. Snead, shooting for his third PGA title, shot a three-under-par 34 on the first nine holes. Burkemo had a 41. The veteran West Virgiuia slammer started with a rush, shooting an eagle three on the 483-yard first hole. Rurkemo birdied the hole, but Snead holed out a 45-foot chip shot to win it.
