By MAX B. COOK Secripps-Howard Aviation Editor The U. 8. Air Force's F-94B, latest all-weather jet interceptor, has been added to the United Nations aerial forces fighting in Korea.

As a vital link in America’s rapidly expanding defense forces, the Lockheed interceptor is ex|pected to pile up hours of actual {combat experience that no test | flying could give it. Right now it is the nation’s ace in the hole in case of an enemy surprise attack. The first jet all-weather interceptor to be assigned to operational duty both in the continental United States and overseas, the F-04 can fly at 45,000 feet. Its speed, a secret, is .given as “in the 600-miles per-hour class.” Equipped with powerful radar in its bulbous nose and a perfect “homing” system provided by a Sperry Zero Reader, it can quickly spot its bomber target in darkness and launch its attack. Armament, now four 50-caliber nose guns, can be increased if necessary. With Lt. Alvin Moore of Tyndall Field Air Force Base as pilot, I flew in one of the F-94Bs over Long Island and the Sound. It

parachute, a Mae West (just in case of a bailout over water) a crash helmet with earphones and an oxygen mask bearing a small microphone, I was strapped into an ejection seat directly behind the pilot. In case anything went wrong I could “shoot” mygelf into the air, clear of the plane. This seat is normally occupied by the radar operator who scans the skies for enemy bombers and fighters and keeps the pilot advised by interphone. A strong plastic canopy, hydraulically operated, allows for automatic pressurization of the two | cockpits when the plane climbs to high altitude. A powerful Allison J33-A-33 turbojet en-

gine, equipped with an afterburner for added speed and power, sends the F-04 along at terrific speed. With its two-man crew, the interceptor can do a 24-hour, allweather defense job, one to which many F-94s now have been assigned in the United States. And Lockheed, which turned out 2000 F-80 Shooting Star jet fighters, now is on 100 per cent production of the new planes.

Ruby Gets Her Gun

‘Cause She's Constable LANDAFTF, N. H. (UP)—"“Ruby get your gun.” That, in effect, is what the citizens of Landaff told Mrs. Ruby Gray when they elected her the first woman constable in the town’s history at the annual town meeting. The 32-year-old farmer's wife said “I'll do my best” to maintain law and order in this community of about 400 persons. The constable’s job pays about $20 a year.
