‘Norway’ Best We've Had

By Henry Butler “Song of Norway,” which opened at the Fair Grounds last night, looks like the best Starlight Musical to date. It sounds about ditto, with the great advantage this year of a stage reasonably close to the spectators. ;

The new stage is better tained, despite the fouled-up drapes last night. | Altogether, the whole set-|

up looks better than anything we've seen in previous summer! seasons, {

has the advantage of trained and experienced local com- | pany of singers, ballet dancers and supporting actors to assist! the imported stars. Every experienced ‘local participant did! better in last night's opening | than in any previous Starlight Musicals opening. | Mr. Hedley’s choice of “Song of Norway’ to.start the season was good. It’s unhackneyed. And whatever slight absurdities it may contain, the music is uniformly excellent, even where adapters Robert Wright and George Forrest have built popular-sounding tunes out of such unlikely material as Grieg’s song cycle “Haugtussa.” Local boy hasn't far to go to
