Polio Board Quits In Dispute With National Officials

Marion County polio campaign directors posts in objection to “high-handed rule” by the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis in New York City. The 27-member board voted unanimously to surrender their charters after the National Foundation’s ruling to appoint the 1952 Marion County campaign director from three candidates named locally. Previously, the county chapter ® named its own directors. ;

To Continue Services

Robert Branson, state representative for the Foundation, the action “will not disrupt any of the Foundation’s services to the community.” i He expected to organize new saute to St. Marys over (Workers next week with contributors to be given the chance to make nominations at a public meeting. Another bone of contention indicated was criticism by the National Foundation that Marion County’s 1951 collections for polio patients was low nationally. Totaling $67,828.32, lections were said to represent 12 per cent per capita. Nationally, they were 22 per cent. Small towns, where collections “are easier than in big cities,” and towns having had polio epidemics “ran up the national rate,” one member said.
